I first met Valerie, a kind and gorgeous gal, sometime late last summer. We met at a local cafe for our initial consultation and she shared with me how she and Garland, her now hubby, first met. Garland is a VMI graduate (Valerie attended Christopher Newport University) and they were introduced during their time in undergrad. One of the funny things about their story is that as Garland's date for a VMI ring ceremony, Valerie actually wore a wedding dress shortly after they met. And on April 23, 2016 she got to do it all over again: but this time for real! Garland is now a licensed attorney and Valerie works in the local non-profit sector. An avid and accomplished baker, Valerie also runs an amazing blog called Pursuit of Sweetness that chronicles her pursuit of the "sweet things in life."
Valerie + Garland were married in mid April on a beautiful spring day at St. Bridget's Catholic Church followed by their reception at The John Marshall Ballrooms. They had a large bridal party (8 on both sides) and the MOH and Best Man were a sister and brother, respectively. Valerie and Garland chose soft, neutral, and romantic colors of grey, blue grey, and white with hints of gold. They also made sure to include touches of Richmond throughout their wedding by offering pancake and grit mix from Ashland as their party favors, adding cans of Virginia peanuts for guests to munch on at the bar, and even having custom made Peter Blair bow ties for the guys!
It was such a pleasure to work with Valerie and Garland and their wedding will go down as one of my favorites! The details were flawless, the florals were stunning (hello Amanda Burnette!), and Valerie was ever the picture of grace and elegance. She was a joy to work with and I am thankful to have been a part of it all!
Now on to the fun fart: the photos!
It's always special when a couple can incorporate themselves into their wedding. And I love how Valerie and Garland did just that with their sentimental, personal, and meaningful wedding details. Valerie went with a gray suede shoe which was the perfect compliment to her "make you feel things" color scheme and her lovely Tiffany's Bridal dress. And I just ADORE their gold wedding rings - a nod to something traditional and a break away from all the silver and white gold you see now - and how they incorporated the VMI rings from that special date way back when.
Oh those black-and-white photos: be still my beating heart!

This crew had lots of love!
Oh Jessica Crews, you are a genius behind a camera!
They had the cutest pedicab send off to their hotel! And they had all their lovely flowers donated to Grace In Bloom at the end of the night where they were later given to a local nursing home :-).
So there it is: the beautiful highlights of a beautiful day. I want to wish these two the best of luck once again and all the happiness to be found in their new life together!
