Hi there! I hope you had a lovely weekend! I am so excited to finally announce that I have hired the first ever Maggie's Misc interns! Lindsey was the first person to interview with me and eventually became the first person to be hired for the position. What struck me about Lindsey was that she reached out to me about a job with before I posted my need for an intern externally. We met for the first time at Boyer's Coffee and little did I know at the time, but she drove all the way here from Connecticut (about 8 hours!) for our first interview! I thought she was already living in the area and when I learned that she was moving here but was really interested in the opportunity was impressed that someone would drive that far for an unpaid position. My husband Don went with me to a second round interview with Lindsey and another candidate and he noticed that Lindsey was passionate about this industry and reminded me that passion is not something you can train.
Hiring someone was difficult for me simply because I am so passionate about this business, the brand, and truly believe this to be my ministry and a way for me to give back and love on people. But, nevertheless, as the business has begun to grow, I quickly realized it was not possible to continue solo. I would only be hindering the business and exhausting myself in the process. Sometimes you just have to take a leap, reach out, and trust other people to help you along the way. Now, I will let Lindsey tell you a little about herself in her own words.
"Hey everyone! I’m Lindsey Grinnell, intern for Maggie’s Misc Events. I recently graduated from Roanoke College with my BA in Communication studies. I’m originally from a small town in Connecticut, and now working in Richmond, VA.
My passion for organization, creativity and family is what led me to pursue wedding and event planning; I want to learn all the ins and outs of this industry! What I love most about event planning is the hard work and small details that happen behind the scenes. I view any event as a painting. You combine the brushstroke, color, and details and when it all comes together you have a masterpiece right in front of you.
Also, weddings are filled with so much happiness and love, which is wonderful. Knowing I can help just a little toward making a couple’s special day come true is such a positive feeling. I hope to learn how to be the best wedding planner possible through my journey at Maggie’s Misc Events.
A few fun facts about me: I am an adventurous, goal driven, recent college graduate. I absolutely love cats, coffee, and traveling. In my free time you will find me enjoying the outdoors, catching up with my sorority sisters, and binge watching Grey's Anatomy. Also, if you see me out, you will always catch me with a huge smile on my face or constantly laughing. I enjoy meeting new people, visiting cities I have never been to before, and am a firm believer that hard work pays off."
There you have it folks. Let's give a warm welcome to Lindsey. My hope is that we can learn from each other along the way, and that this position can help along the path toward who she was created to be.
As always, thanks for stopping by!
