Hey there everyone! The hot and humid summer is slowly coming to an end and crisp fall air, Saturday football games, and fleece jackets are just around the corner. As we transition into this new season, that means new trends in the weddings' sphere. Last week, Lindsey (my intern) and I had the opportunity to interview Megan Acosta, owner of Glamour & Grace Blog (a wedding blog featuring vintage and handmade weddings and styled shoots), on fall wedding trends. Megan started Glamour & Grace in 2010 with the dream of providing a source for brides (and grooms) wanting to plan a vintage or handmade inspired wedding. The blog has taken off and Megan has since become an industry leader in many ways. She is humble, honest, and real, and I have enjoyed our chats together over coffee at The Urban Farmhouse Cafe. She featured our
"A Day at the Derby" shoot in April, and I am honored that we were able to pick her brain. Today we will be sharing some ideas, inspiration, and tips to keep in mind when planning your fall wedding! Bring on the rich colors, comfort food, and those pumpkin spice lattes!
Fall Color Palettes:
Just as the leaves are starting to change so is the color palette as we transition from summer to fall. In this season you can really have some fun and play around with different hues and metals as you draw inspiration from your surroundings. We asked Megan to share her inspiration for fall color palettes:
- Jewel Tones (Think Emerald, Amethyst, Jade, and Sapphire!)
- Deep Purples like Eggplant, Plum, or Black Currant
Metallics (This year specifically bronze, copper, and pewter are proving to be very popular)
-Neutrals & Greenery
If your wedding is outdoor and as the leaves change color to bright and vibrant reds, oranges, or yellows, consider keeping your color palette neutral and rich with greenery to play off of your surrounding background. Also, consider mixing color combinations like eggplant, deep emerald, and copper to add richness and warmth, especially as those leaves begin to fall!

Color isn't the only thing changing as we say goodbye to ninety degree weather. Bridesmaids dresses start getting longer, wedding dresses with lace sleeves start popping up, and shawls, wraps, and furs begin making an appearance. In addition, expect to see grooms and groomsmen starting sporting navy, brown, and dark grey suits, checkered or plaid shirts, and let's not forget about those beards!

We asked Megan to let us in on some fun tasty food trends for fall. She said that organic weddings have become really popular and thus showcasing fruits and veggies great for fall. They add both dimension and warmth to any wedding. Want to do a fall wedding, but want to move away from having pumpkins? Considering featuring plums, pears, pomegranates, or cranberries. Not only are these foods tasty and delish, they are also beautiful to photograph! Also, couples tend to have more buffet style seating in the fall and provide menu options featuring comfort foods like mac n cheese, ham biscuits, and apple pie. Fall is a great time to have a coffee or hot cider bar for your guests to warm up as they dance the night away! Get creative here and find unique ways to decorate your set up!
The trend this year for florals has been a shift toward more greenery and a neutral color palette and Megan believes this trend will continue into the fall. Consider having ferns, eucalyptus, or ivy accents in your flowers and add richness and warmth by showcasing velvet details in your arrangements.
Out and On the Way Out
Below are a few trends that have either completed faded out or have one foot in the door! Pale pink is always a favorite for spring and summer weddings, and while this color palette will likely reemerge as the new buds start to sprout up next spring, it's nearly time to say goodbye to it as we enter into fall.
